tears, oily tears by james schuyler
Crying is a habit with me. You mustn’t mind: onions make me smog headlines in the Daily News, not getting enough sleep going to the movies and not going. Fear of getting bawled out by people shorter than me, animals in zoos, deserted buses late at night, teargas, hunger, frustration sob and, oh, yes, superfluous lines of verse and great beauty move me to tears, sliding out of me...

the internet is a beautiful thing
I just received a nice message from Maggie Pardo, a filmmaker and photographer in Buenos Aires whose themes and work seem to be similar to my own (which is pretty cool since she lives in Argentina!)
Her photos are breathtakingly good — take a look at some of my favorites:

Amy Chua Is a Wimp - NYTimes.com →
an interesting op-ed by David Brooks on my parents’ colleague, Amy Chua who has come into the public debate realm after publishing a book on her extreme parenting method. The op-ed is a must read.
Practicing a piece of music for four hours requires focused attention, but it is nowhere near as cognitively demanding as a sleepover with 14-year-old girls. Managing status rivalries,...

YOU'VE BEEN BOBBY'D
“I’ve read People’s History. I must admit though, I do have my problems with Zinn, and especially Chomsky for that matter, when it comes to their handling the questions surrounding 9/11. Zinn was very vocal in reporting that he thought it was a waste of “good energy” to further investigate 9/11. I can’t disagree more. Personally, I believe Zinn and Chomsky both to be political dinosaurs,...

Where has this film been all my life?
Remember when you first saw Citizen Kane and wanted to shout “oh my god…this is how films are supposed to be made!” Yeah, I just had that experience again.
